Torre del Mar is the seaside capital of the Axarquía. Its promenade — wide, palm-lined and recently rebuilt — is one of the best on the whole Málaga coast, and the beach behind it is long, well serviced and busy in the best sense: full of local families rather than tour groups.
Getting there
Direct access from the A-7, Torre del Mar exit. There is free street parking in the surrounding grid, though it fills up in August. Buses run by the Málaga Metropolitan Transport Consortium connect Torre del Mar with Málaga city, Nerja and the rest of the Axarquía, with good frequency.

What the beach is like
Dark, coarse sand — volcanic in origin, like most of the Axarquía — with a gentle entry into the water and generally light waves. It is a wide beach, so even in high season there is room. The water warms up quickly, and August temperatures around 23°C are normal.
The promenade
The Paseo Marítimo de Poniente is the town’s showpiece: several kilometres of flat, well-paved walkway with gardens, playgrounds and terraces, busy from early morning until late at night. It is one of the best places on the coast for an evening stroll, and it stays lively out of season too.
What’s nearby
Aquavelis water park is minutes away — the only one in the eastern half of the province. The fishing port of Caleta de Vélez is five kilometres east, and inland you have Vélez-Málaga with its Moorish fortress and old quarter.
