At the western end of Torre del Mar, beside the mouth of the Vélez river, Lagos Beach has something that sets it apart from the rest of this coastline: a small estuary that becomes a birdwatching spot out of season. Getting there
By car: free parking around the Lagos development. Easy to park even in August, which makes it a very practical alternative to the main Torre del Mar beach. By bus, the Málaga–Torre del Mar route has a stop at the Lagos development.

The estuary
The mouth of the Vélez river, right beside the beach, is a resting point for migrating birds. Out of season it’s common to see herons, egrets and waders here. It’s a modest wetland, but it gives this stretch of coast a character the rest of Torre del Mar doesn’t have.

Dark sand mixed with gravel, a gradual entry into the water and generally gentle waves. Occupancy is moderate in summer — mostly local holidaymakers rather than tourists — and low the rest of the year.
