Between Estepona and Marbella, while the coastline is built up without pause, El Saladillo holds on. Two kilometres of fine sand with kitesurfing in winter and a stream mouth that forms a small wetland for birdwatching. One of the last relatively unspoilt stretches of coast on the western Costa del Sol.
Getting there
By car along the MA-8300 road or from the N-340 (Estepona Este exit). Free informal parking beside the access, unsigned but ample. No direct public transport: driving is effectively the only option.

Kitesurfing, birds and the last wild stretch
El Saladillo has two very distinct seasons. In summer, a quiet beach for anyone escaping the crowds. In autumn and winter, when the westerly wind blows hard, it becomes one of the best kitesurf and windsurf spots in Málaga province. The mouth of the Saladillo stream creates a marsh ecosystem home to waders, herons and other species that are hard to see along the built-up coast. For birdwatchers, an essential visit out of season.

Estepona town is 15 km away, with its old quarter, its fish market and the Mural Route. Marbella is 20 km. For kitesurfing, El Saladillo has schools operating during the windy months (autumn, winter and spring).
