Mezquitilla is a coastal hamlet belonging to Algarrobo that occupies barely a few blocks between the N-340 and the sea. Its beach is in proportion: short, simple, unpretentious, and with that mix of beached fishing boats and towels that has all but disappeared from the Costa del Sol.
Getting there
It sits on the N-340 between Algarrobo Costa and Calaceite. Free parking on the village streets. Intercity buses on the Nerja – Torre del Mar – Málaga route stop on the main road, a hundred metres from the sand.

What it’s like
Around 600 metres of dark sand and gravel with very few visitors. It’s the classic beach that fills with village families at two in the afternoon, empties at five and fills again at eight with people out for a stroll. The water is calm and clean; the slope moderate.
What it’s good for
For a beach day with no agenda: parasol, book, sardines at lunchtime, siesta. There are no organised water activities and no tourist infrastructure, and that’s precisely the appeal. If you’re bringing very young children, bear in mind the rounded stones on the seabed in places.
Around here
Five minutes’ drive gets you to Algarrobo Costa with more facilities, and in the other direction, El Morche and Torrox Costa. It makes a good base for working through this whole stretch of the Axarquía coastline, a different beach each day.
