While Burriana takes the headlines, long-standing Nerja residents have their own favourite: El Playazo. With 550 metres of fine sand, free parking and considerably fewer people than its more famous neighbour, this is the smart choice for anyone who wants to enjoy Nerja without fighting for a sunbed.
Getting there
It has a large free car park beside the beach, which makes it the most convenient option in Nerja if you’re driving. It’s noticeably easier to park here than at Burriana during the summer. By public transport, Nerja town bus route 2 has a stop nearby.

The locals’ best-kept secret
El Playazo has a Basque pelota court that’s busy all summer and exists on no other beach in the area. Locals gather here in the evenings and the feel is completely different from the tourist scene at Burriana. The walk out to the headland separating El Playazo from the road also offers privileged views over the whole bay of Nerja without going near the Balcón de Europa.
What to do nearby
Fifteen minutes on foot from Burriana and its water sports operators. The Caves of Nerja are under 5 minutes away by car. Nerja’s old town is a 20-minute walk.
Places to stay nearby
Good selection of apartments in the area between El Playazo and central Nerja. Quieter and often cheaper than the immediate surroundings of Burriana.
