Of all the beaches in Málaga city, none looks like Peñón del Cuervo. A huge rock, split down the middle, rises out of the sand and divides the beach in two, creating a scene that exists nowhere else along the city’s coastline.
Getting there
It’s at the eastern edge of the municipality, past El Palo, on the Almería road (N-340) before you reach La Cala del Moral. Take EMT city bus route 11 to the end of the line. There’s free dirt parking beside the beach — a rarity in the city.

The night of San Juan
Peñón del Cuervo is the classic setting for the night of San Juan in Málaga: on 23 June it fills with people, bonfires, food and music until dawn. If you’re in the city that night it’s an experience worth having, though you’ll need to arrive extremely early.
What the beach is like
Around 500 metres of dark sand with gravel, split by the rock. The seabed has rounded stones in places, so water shoes are advisable. Being at the far edge of the municipality, occupancy stays low except on summer weekends.
Barbecues
It’s one of the few beaches in the province with a designated barbecue area and built picnic facilities. Demand is heavy at weekends: if you want a spot, get there early. And always respect the municipal rules on fires, which tighten in summer.
