Opening hours: Departures throughout the day in season. The first slot of the morning is best: flat sea and sometimes lower prices.

Jet skis are the second most popular water activity on the Costa del Sol after paddleboarding, and the Torremolinos–Benalmádena–Fuengirola–Marbella stretch has more operators than anywhere else in Andalusia.

Two ways to do it

  • Marked circuit (no licence needed): 20 or 30 minutes inside a buoyed area in front of the beach, supervised by the operator. This is the standard option and requires no qualification.
  • Guided excursion (no licence, with a qualified guide): trips of 1 to 2 hours running along the coast in a group behind an instructor. Far more interesting than going in circles, and the option we’d recommend if the budget allows.

If you hold a boat licence, many operators will hire you a jet ski by the hour to use freely.

Where

Puerto Marina in Benalmádena and Malapesquera beach are the epicentre: that’s where you’ll find the widest choice and the most competitive prices. There are also operators at Puerto Banús, Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Estepona.

Typical prices

Around €40-60 for 20-30 minutes on a circuit, and €90-150 for guided excursions of one to two hours, usually per machine (most take two people). Compare before booking: prices vary noticeably between operators in the same marina.

Requirements and safety

  • Minimum age is usually 16-18 to drive; younger passengers may ride behind an adult depending on the operator.
  • Life jacket compulsory, always included.
  • You’ll sign a liability waiver and normally leave a deposit or document.
  • Check the operator holds insurance and port authority authorisation. This isn’t red tape: it’s what covers you if something goes wrong.

Practical tip

Book the first slot of the morning. The sea is flatter — travelling at 50 km/h over short chop is uncomfortable and tiring — and some operators charge less outside the busy late-afternoon window.
