Punta Chullera is where Málaga province ends. Across the stream it’s already Cádiz, and the landscape announces it: less development, more rock, more wind and a different sea — more Atlantic than Mediterranean.
Getting there
Along the N-340 between Sabinillas and San Diego (Cádiz), looking for the turnings towards the coast. There are several tracks down and dirt parking areas. There’s no promenade and no urban access: it’s a run of scattered coves reached on foot from the parking areas.
Facilities
- ✓ Beach bar at the main access (in season)
- ✓ Free dirt parking
- ✗ No showers or toilets at most of the coves
- ✗ No lifeguard
- ✗ No adapted access
What it’s like
A coastline of small coves separated by fingers of rock, with dark sand mixed with rounded stones and a rocky seabed. The water is usually very clean and there’s good snorkelling around the points. This is an exposed stretch: a strong westerly brings real swell and there are currents, so use your head given there’s no lifeguard.
Naturism
The more remote coves at Punta Chullera have been a tolerated naturist area for decades. It isn’t an official naturist beach, but the custom is well established and coexists without friction with clothed bathers at the easier-to-reach coves.
Before you go
Bring water, food, a parasol and water shoes: there are no facilities, no natural shade and the seabed is stone. In exchange you get one of the last genuinely wild beaches in the province and sunsets with Gibraltar and the African coast on the horizon that are worth the trip on their own.
