Spain’s default rule is that dogs are not allowed on beaches during the bathing season. What exists instead are specific stretches designated by each town council, and those designations change from year to year. This guide lists the beaches in our database currently marked as dog-friendly.

Rules that apply almost everywhere
- Lead and, where required, muzzle depending on the breed and local by-laws.
- Pick up after your dog. This is the single behaviour that gets these designated areas closed down.
- Vaccination and microchip up to date. Spot checks do happen.
- Fresh water and shade. A dog on dark sand in August overheats faster than you think.
Off-season
Outside the official bathing season — broadly October to May — many councils relax enforcement and dogs are commonly walked on beaches that are off-limits in summer. This is tolerance, not a legal right: check the local by-law and use common sense.
Before you drive out
Designated dog beaches are approved annually and can move or disappear. Always confirm with the town council for the current year before making a long trip.
