Calaceite closes off the Torrox coastline to the west, almost touching the Algarrobo boundary. It’s a long, barely developed beach with stretches where on a June day you can be practically alone. That’s precisely why its most remote section works as a tolerated naturist area, though it isn’t an official naturist beach and isn’t signposted as one.
Getting there
Access from the N-340 between El Morche and Mezquitilla. There are several footpaths down from the road and a dirt parking area beside the service road. There’s no public transport stop directly here: the practical options are to drive or to walk along the shoreline from El Morche.
Facilities
- ✓ Beach bar in the central section
- ✓ Showers in the busier area
- ✓ Free dirt parking
- ✗ No lifeguard along most of the beach
- ✗ No adapted access
What it’s like
Around 1,200 metres of dark sand and gravel, with the N-340 and the greenway behind it and almost no building on the front. The water is clean and among the clearest along this stretch, partly because fewer people come here. A strong easterly brings short chop that lifts gravel off the bottom and clouds the shallows; with a westerly it’s usually flat as a plate.
Naturism
The western end, furthest from the access points, has been a tolerated naturist area for decades. It coexists without any friction with clothed bathers along the rest of the beach. If you want a naturist beach with facilities and official recognition, the province has another option; here it’s simply long-standing custom and mutual respect.
What to bring
Take water, a parasol and water shoes: there’s no natural shade whatsoever and the seabed has rounded stones. And as on any beach without a lifeguard, use your head about currents on easterly days.
